How to use promotions and discounts
What do customers love most of all? Great deals!
Promotions and discounts are probably the most effective way to generate more sales online. Several bakeries do this regularly with very good results. By running regular promotions, you also keep customers engaged on social media.
Whether you’re looking to drive more sales for the holidays or are launching a new product, promotions are the perfect tool to use. They create a clear call-to-action for your customers and create more awareness around your products. And don’t be afraid to offer discounts. It’s often better to sell ten cakes at a 20% discount than to sell one cake at full price.
How to set up a campaign in the online store
1. Go to the product you want to run a campaign on, and select Discount in the top line.
2. Enter the discount you want to give in percentage. Prices are rounded to the nearest krone.
3. Enter an end date for the campaign. The campaign will run until the selected date. If you want the campaign to be permanent or if you want to turn it off yourself, select No end date .
The promotion will disappear on its own after the end date. If you want to change or delete the discount during the promotion period, simply select change on the product page.
What the campaign looks like on the online store
When you activate the promotion, a sticker will automatically appear on the images and the prices will be changed to make the discount clear. There will also be automatic text in the product description explaining how long the promotion lasts, so you don't have to type anything. See the example below.
Tips for using campaigns
Holiday campaign
Campaigns are perfect for adding extra pressure before big days like Easter, Christmas, Lent, May 17th, etc.
Example: Run a 20% discount on all May 17th cakes two weeks before the national day. If you have the capacity, it is better to sell many cakes at a discount than to get cakes at full price.
Package offer
You can also use the promotions feature to showcase great package deals. Put together a package of products, set the regular prices as the default price, and create a promotion with no end date. This will make it easy for customers to see the savings on the package deal.
Weekly offer
Find a fixed product or rotating products that you can run a discount on once a week, or once a month.
Example: Run a promotion on a new cake every Wednesday at 25% off. Call it the Wednesday Cake.
New launches
Have you launched a new product or solution? Run a campaign for the first two weeks so that customers have a good incentive to test the product.
Example: If you are launching takeaway in-store - offer a 20% discount on all lunch items for the first two weeks so that customers have an incentive to test the solution.
How to promote the campaign
Of course, it's always good to promote campaigns in the store. Both by telling customers about it and putting up posters with, for example, "Order May 17th cakes online. Get 20% off."
Two channels that are perfect for promotions are of course Facebook and Instagram. They love discounts on social media and it usually creates quite a lot of activity.
Posting tips:
Use an enticing image of the product. If you want to spice up the image, use the Canva tool.
Write a text focusing on the campaign and a link to the product on the online store. For example. “ Campaign! -25% on our popular cheesecakes this week! Order online (link) ”. Play around with the text and feel free to throw in some emojis.
After you publish your post, you can promote it to reach as many people as possible. Remember to target by location, to your city or the places where the stores are located. When promoting your post, you can also add a “Buy Now” button with a link to the product on the online store.
